Creation of INCA

It may seem strange now but in the early days of broadband, there was serious doubt in the industry that domestic demand could ever justify the investments needed to connect everyone. This was especially the case in the so-called “under-served" areas - mostly rural but also some urban locations. Looking at small businesses, the industry also thought SMEs would only ever need about 2 megabit per second!

We had the vision to see the value that could be delivered through a unified voice bringing together smaller network providers. The at vision, and our leadership in the formation of INCA – he Independent Networks Cooperative Association – ensured that Altnets could scale and offer competitive options in the broadband market.

Impact:

The recommendations in INCA's 2016 report "Building Gigabit Britain" were largely adopted by the Government, and proved pivotal in opening up the UK telecoms market and paving the way for Altnets to attract in excess of £20bn in investment and drive the rollout of fibre to the premises across the UK.
